Gregory Walker’s “Nightmare in Rio”
| September 22, 2007 | ||
| 7:30 pm | to | 9:00 pm |
Gregory Walker’s Nightmare in Rio is a multimedia event involving original Latin Fusion music, the spoken word, video projection, and photography. On stage, a translucent scrim suspended between the musicians will present projected Brazilian imagery superimposed with the speech recognition transcript of the musicians’ verbal communications as they unfold.
Walker’s concept is that if musicians agree to work with mutually and spontaneously composed directions in performance, their creative expression and interaction will be forced to expand. Furthermore, if these directions are visible to an audience, a deeper understanding of improvisation and composition will be possible.
Walker, Associate Professor of Music at CU Denver, was invited to travel to São Paulo in June of 2007 to research Bossa Nova music as well as Palo Mayombe voodoo culture.
Performers:
- Gregory Walker, guitar
- Glen Whitehead, trumpet
- Randy Bowen, drums
- Kim Stone, bass
This event is sponsored by the UCCS Music Program, Department of Visual and Performing Arts, and the Office of Campus Activities and is FREE and open to the public.
