Strange Blender

The Gallery of Contemporary Art presents Janet Jacobson (violin) and Jordan Jacobson (trombone) in concert featuring the work of 20th and 21st century composers. The Strange Blender performance features compositions by Béla Bartók (1881-1945), John Howell Morrison (1956-), Mark O’Connor (1961-), Folke Rabe (1935-), Jordan Jacobson (1978), and Janet Jacobson (1981) with trombone, violin and tape.
Janet Jacobson recently completed a Master’s degree at the Boston Conservatory as a scholarship student of Irina Muresanu. She has given solo performances as part of the Longfellow Summer Series at the Henry Longfellow House in Cambridge, MA and the Elderhostel Lecture Recital Series in Boston. She has performed with several new music ensembles in the Utah and Boston areas including the Group for New Music, the Ludovico Ensemble, Juventas, and the Boston Conservatory New Music Festival. This summer Ms. Jacobson will be performing with the Killington Music Festival in Vermont.
Jordan Jacobson is a versatile musician, excelling in many genres of music. Mr. Jacobson recently graduated from the Longy School of Music’s graduate program in Cambridge, Massachusetts where he studied with Darren Acosta and Boston Symphony trombonist Norman Bolter. He has also studied with James Nova, assistant principal trombone of the Utah Symphony. He performed with Brigham Young University’s jazz ensemble, touring Russia, Finland, and England, performing at the Pori Jazz Festival in Finland and at the IAJE convention in Long Beach, California. He also was a member of the Salt Lake City area salsa band, Son del Callao, and performed with the Salt Lake City Jazz Orchestra, the Salt Lake Alternative Jazz Orchestra, and with small jazz groups under his own direction. Recently he has appeared in the Boston area with the Peter Cassino Quintet and performing with Longy’s Repertoire Ensemble under direction of Charlie Kolhase with guests artists including John Tchicai. A proponent of new music, he has performed with new music ensemble Longitude of the Longy School of Music. Later this year, he will be pursuing a doctoral degree at the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati.
